Illuminated Initial from SEC Consecration Vellum

Initial letter illuminated in 23c gold leaf and watercolour from the beginning of the handwritten text on the Consecration document marking the appointment of the current Scottish Episcopal Bishop of Brechin. The Arms painted on the shield are of the Diocese of Brechin.

The main text was handwritten in Chinese ink on calfskin vellum with this illuminated initial and the shield painted at the start of it.

Each of the Dioceses of the Scottish Episcopal Church have their own Coat of Arms, like this one for the Diocese of Brechin.
