Double Initials with a Unicorn and Manticora

Commissioned to be given as a special wedding gift, handpainted on 300gsm watercolour paper

Initials CJ with a Unicorn and a Manticora within a framework of Autumn leaves.

Commissioned to be given as a special wedding gift, handpainted on 300gsm watercolour paper.

The Unicorn is a sacred, lunar beast with the head and body of a horse, tail of a lion, legs and hooves of a stag and a twisted horn in the centre of its forehead. It represents mystery and magic to many civilisations ; in medieval times the horn was believed to have medicinal powers and was an antidote to poison. The Unicorn represents purity, virtue and strength of mind and body and it appears as one of the Supporters of the Royal Arms of Scotland.

The Manticora is a lion with a man’s face, also known therefore as a Man-lion.

Not sure why the latter was chosen to be part of the final design but I am sure they had their reasons.
