23c Gold Initials with Flowers and Largs Pencil

Sea Campion and the Runner bean with a local landmark

Painted for a couple as a special Wedding Anniversary gift.

I was asked to choose suitable flowers for a couple of whom the lady loves living by the sea and the gentleman loves to run and so I chose Sea Campion and the Runner bean with a local landmark, which they also love.

It is useful for me to know a little about each of the people I am asked to paint something for, that way I can research which plants look best, consider their colours and how they might go together and this helps me decide on a final design. Even to know someone’s favourite colours or flowers also helps me to choose suitable elements for an initials’ gift, and knowing what date marks an anniversary or a birthday also helps immensely. All of these things add further meaning to an already personal handpainted gift.

Painted in gouache and watercolour on 300gsm paper, within a double mount 125 x 175mm.
